Contact ECP for more details on the experiments for each plant
Broad coverage of practical and theoretical topics
Step-by step instructions for students
Comprehensive exercises
Complete instructor solutions

ECP exclusive dynamics and vibrations experiments build insight into dynamic system principles through hands-on practice and interactive observation of system behavior. Step-by-step instructions for students and detailed exercise solutions greatly reduce the instructor's burden in laboratory lesson preparation.

The versatility of the mechanisms and interface program are exploited to provide coverage of fundamental through intermediate topics and analytical tools are given to extend study to the advanced/research level. All dynamic parameter values and specific numerical models are provided to the instructor. Matlab® scripts are furnished for building more general plant models and performing certain analytical and simulation activities covered in the experiments.

These experiments graphically demonstrate the fundamental principles found in virtually all undergraduate dynamics and vibrations text books. Comprehensive exercises accompany the experiments to assure that a clear connection is made between theory and physical system behavior.

All experiments may be performed on both the Model 205 and 210 mechanisms. The breadth and depth of the experiments allow the instructor to select those best suited for the particular course of study; they include:

  • System Parameter Identification
  • Unforced Response of Spring/mass/damper
  • Step & Impulse Response of Various System Types
  • Step Response of Damped Oscillator
  • Linearity Principles: Proportionality & Superposition
  • Convolution Integral and Response to Arbitrary Input
  • Harmonic Response of Various System Types
  • Harmonic Response of Spring / Mass / Damper
  • Two DOF System - Unforced Motion & Properties of Natural Modes
  • Two DOF System - Step & Impulse Responses
  • Two DOF System - Harmonic Input Response
  • Three DOF Systems and Higher Order Systems
  • Base Motion Excitation - Single and multi DOF
